Misaki Doi came to a press conference on the 11th at Kinoshita Group Japan Open (WTA 250) where she was given a wild card into the main draw. Doi was a finalist in singles and a winner in doubles teaming up with Nao Hibino in 2019 but at age 32, she has recently announced her decision to retire. She played in the qualifying in 2009 and played for 10 consecutive years. She said, “I’ve been playing this tournament for many years so it is great to be back.” Her physical condition is “neither good nor bad” but once she enters the venue, her tension increases getting her ready to compete. On the other hand, she says she is enjoying food in Osaka. She has been getting tips from her fans and visiting recommended restaurants. All the restaurants recommended by her fans are very crowded making her think that her fans are “gourmet.” She seems to be enjoying her last tournament in Osaka before retiring.
